WRAPUP OF WEBINAR – 102 YEARS SINCE THE SAN REMO RESOLUTION

FOLLOW-UP AND CONTINUATION OF THE CAMPAIGN TO DECLARE YOM SAN REMO

Modesty to the wind, we are proud to report the successful outcome of our San Remo webinar held on the 24th of April, joined by over 200 people, even with the Passover holidays being so close.

Those who have missed the event, but would like to see the recording:

STATISTICS, QUESTIONS, AND FEEDBACK FROM THE AUDIENCE

STATISTICS: Of the 540 Registrants, dozens of ‘regrets’ were received, asking for the recordings which can be seen above.

Q&A: Many great questions were asked such as the following:

  1. To Yifa: Is the Mandate for Palestine still valid after Britain’s withdrawal?

  2. To Anyone: Can you tell us about the UN Agenda #7 and why this blatant violation of their mission goes unpunished.

  3. Why does Israel not go on the offensive against their existential threat by the adversaries?

  4. Why is Israel the only state that has to find justifications for it’s existence?

  5. Hypothetically, could the UN, General Assembly and especially the Security Council find a legal mechanism to revoke or override the San Remo Treaty?

  6. Why hasn’t San Remo been made into a holiday already, as it is so important?

OUR CAMPAIGN CONTINUES TO DECLARE SAN REMO A NATIONAL HOLIDAY-CALLED YOM SAN REMO

Our campaign continues, and will end when we achieve our goal, which we started in 2020, on San Remo’s 100thanniversary.

The 1050 signatures we received this year, needs to be multiplied, by reinforced vigour, in the near future.

At that point all signers will be inscribed in a scroll, which will be personally delivered to the Prime Minister, urging him to take action.

First step in the right direction is the recent inauguration of a lovely and colourful square in Netanya, known as San Remo’s twin city.

In Collaboration with CILR's initiative: Extract of Op-ed in the JNS By Steve Feldman, Greater Philadelphia ZOA Executive Director (APRIL 25, 2022 / JNS)

“Some, including the Zionist Organization of America, have called for April 25 to be an international Jewish holiday: Yom San Remo. That is a good beginning. As we know, some holidays are observed merely by rote, without feeling or respect or worse, just another excuse to turn the occasion into sales of electronics or bedsheets.

More is needed for Yom San Remo: days of pro-Zionist and pro-Israel, and even biblical education; days of activism and advocacy; teach-ins from the youngest of us to the eldest; marches; essay and poster contests; and other activities to make the commemoration tangible and prideful.

It’s a bit late to start planning grand events, exhibits and contests for this year. But it is the perfect time to begin planning for next year. Contact communal leaders, spiritual leaders, journalism leaders and others to begin local and national Yom San Remo events. Do so to remember what happened in that small Italian town or be doomed to see it undone. The choice is ours.”

Unique Jewish Culture Festival Retells the story of the San Remo Resolution as Lord Balfour receives plaque commemorating historic Peace Conference of 1920

3rd l-r: 5th Earl of Balfour Dror Eydar, Tomas Sandell, Gregory Lafitte

…….to coincide with the dates of the San Remo Peace Conference of 19-26th April in 1920. In honour of this historic conference a commemorative plaque was presented to the 5th Earl of Balfour, whose great-great uncle was the chief architect of the historical document which became international law in San Remo. Presenting the award …., Gregory Lafitte of the Forum for Cultural Diplomacy, ECI Founding Director and

Tomas Sandell reminded the recipients of the close relationship between the First Earl of Balfour and Chaim Weizmann, recalling that he was one of the last persons to see Lord Balfour on his deathbed. The other recipient of a plaque, Israel’s ambassador to Italy, Dror Eydar, noted the historic irony in that the same nation that now hosts the Arch of Hadrian in Rome, which commemorates the expulsion of the Jews from Judea in A.D. 70, would 1850 years later host the peace conference which gave birth to the modern State of Israel. Read more here.

On April 27,2022, we, together with Jews in Israel and in the Diaspora, commemorated the saddest day in the history of the Jewish people – Yom Hashoa. May the words NEVER AGAIN echo throughout the world – and be sealed in the book of justice for eternity.
